CCSS Tax Renewal Passes; Trump, Cruz, and Clinton Do Well in Louisiana

    Last Saturday’s elections included items on the local, parish, and state levels.  The results are as follows.  For complete results for these and all other races, visit the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.la.gov.
    The Central Community School System 32.52 mills 10 year tax renewal passed with 57% voting for 43% voting against.  The voter turnout for the tax election was 30.9%.  
    The Democratic Presidential Primary results are as follows, with 23.3% of registered voters statewide voting: Hillary Clinton- 71%, “Bernie” Sanders- 23%, Steve Burke- 2%, Martin J. O’Malley- 1%, and John Wolfe- 1%.  The following candidates received votes, but got 0% (rounded) of the vote: Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, Henry Hewes, Keith Judd, Michael A. Steinberg, and Willie L. Wilson.  
    The Republican Presidential Primary results are as follows, with 36.3% of registered voters statewide voting: Donald J. Trump- 41%, “Ted” Cruz- 38%, Marco Rubio- 11%, John R. Kasich- 6%, “Ben” Carson- 2%, and “Jeb” Bush- 1%.  The following candidates received votes, but got 0% (rounded) of the vote: “Chris” Christie, Timothy “Tim” Cook, “Carly” Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, “Mike” Huckabee, Peter Messina, “Rand” Paul, and “Rick” Santorum.  Please note that many presidential candidates in both parties have dropped out of the race, but they can still receive votes if their names are on the ballot.
    Five at-large members were chosen for the East Baton Rouge Democratic Parish Executive Committee.  The top five candidates, with a parish-wide voter turnout of 16.3%, were Dawn Collins- 14%, Carolyn Hill- 13%, Dalton Honore II- 12%, Tia Mills- 8%, and Larry C. Selders- 7%.  The remaining candidates were as follows: “Matt” Atkinson- 6%, Daniel Banguel- 4%, “Brien” Buxton- 3%, Eugene Collins- 6%, Kirk Green- 4%, Donald Hodge, Jr.- 3%, “Pete” Martinez- 3%, Tania Nyman- 4%, Mary Ellen Slayter- 5%, Shashonnie Steward- 4%, and Dean “Deaneaux” Vicknair- 4%.
    Five at-large members were chosen for the East Baton Rouge Republican Parish Executive Committee.  The top five candidates, with a parish-wide voter turnout of 23.9%, were “Dan” Claitor- 18%, Jason Engen- 10%, “Tommy” French- 10%, Louis “Woody” Jenkins- 16%, and Scott McKnight- 14%.  The remaining candidates were as follows: Christopher Bailey- 9%, Betsy Otken Barnes- 9%, Patrick “Pat” Broderick- 8%, and Cecil Cavanaugh- 7%.
