Flood 2016
Bodi White to Discuss Flood Recovery & Federal Support at 9/19 RWC Meeting
RWC Press Release
Senator Bodi White just returned from a trip to Capitol Hill with a delegation of the state's governor and others demanding answers as to why FEMA and federal programs have failed in the weeks since the catastrophic flood of August 2016. Senator White will be the featured guest speaker for the Republican Women of Central and residents on Monday, Sept. 19, 2016 at Sammy's Grill in Central.
RWC members and the public are invited. Socializing begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and speaker at 6:30 p.m.
Senator White serves District 6 as well as Homeland Security Chairman for Louisiana and is a qualified candidate for Mayor-President of East Baton Rouge Parish. In his capacity as senator, he will be sharing the latest information from FEMA, decades of federal delays of the Comite Diversion Canal Projects which was designed to prevent catastrophic flooding yet remains incomplete, federal and state assistance, and travel with the delegation testifying before U.S. Congress.
This delegation members was all very familiar with our citizens, was led by U.S. Congressman Garret Graves and included Governor John Bel Edwards, Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain, Senator White, Central Mayor Junior Shelton, Walker Mayor Rick Ramsey, Denham Springs Mayor Gerard Landry.
All represented areas hardest hit by unexpected flood waters and over 4 weeks of poor communication and inadequate response by FEMA, The Red Cross and federally approved agencies. Most residents feel federal support was insignificant during the rescue phase after the flood, and is now imperative during recovery as the vast majority of businesses and homes within EBRP, Central and Livingston remain destroyed.
Later in the week RWC is also co-hosting a "MEET THE MAYORAL CANDIDATE FORUM" for all four Republican candidates on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the State Archives, 3851 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge. The forum is being presented by RWC, Republican Women of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish Republican Women. It is free and open to the public. Wine & Cheese Reception begins at 5:45 p.m. and forum at 6:30 p.m.
Email RSVP to [email protected], or call or text Treasurer Judy Keigley (225) 241-4585 before Friday, September 16th at 9 a.m.
