Central Permitting and Inspection Policy

1. No cost permits will be required for all flood damaged properties.  As long as an insurance claim number or a FEMA claim number is provided, the fee will be waived.
2. The applicant can obtain a permit over the telephone by calling 262-5000 or personally appearing at 6703 Sullivan Road, Central, LA 70739.
3. Licensed contractors are required for electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits.  Homeowner Permits will be allowed with competent knowledge of the related field.
4. Per FEMA, areas of substantial damage, which would be greater than 50% of the assessed value of the residence or 50% of the appraised value of the residence (with the appraisal being performed within the last three years) has to be evaluated and approved by the City of Central prior to reconstruction.
5. Per FEMA, if the cost to repair is 50% or greater of the value of the residence, it is considered substantial damage.
6. The City of Central is meeting with FEMA to get clarification on items related to the reconstruction of substantially damaged homes.
7. The City of Central/IBTS Permitting Office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and inspections will be performed as needed 7 days a week, 16 hours a day.  Central Municipal Services will be performing moisture tests during inspections.
