Election This Saturday

By  |

This Saturday, March 5, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.  This election will include the United Stated Presidential Primary, Republican Parish Executive Committee (RPEC) Members at Large, Democratic Parish Executive Committee (DPEC) Members at Large, Democratic State Central Committee, and the Central Community School System 32.52 mills 10 year tax renewal.
The only item that will be the same on everyone’s ballot is the Central Community School System 10 year millage renewal.  You will vote “yes” to renew this millage, or “no” to discontinue it.  The rest of the items on your ballot will depend on your address and your registered party affiliation.
Louisiana has a closed presidential primary, so you will only be allowed to vote for a presidential candidate who is the same party as you.  You will only vote for one presidential candidate.  The following presidential candidates are on the sample ballot for registered Republicans: “Jeb” Bush, “Ben” Carson, “Chris” Christie, Timothy “Tim” Cook, “Ted” Cruz, “Carly” Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, “Mike” Huckabee, John R. Kasich, Peter Messina, “Rand” Paul, Marco Rubio, “Rick” Santorum, and Donald J. Trump.  The following presidential candidates are on the sample ballot for registered Democrats: Steve Burke, Hillary Clinton, Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, Henry Hewes, Keith Judd, Martin J. O’Malley, “Bernie” Sanders, Michael A. Steinberg, Willie L. Wilson, and John Wolfe.  Please note that many candidates in both parties have since dropped out of the race, so not all of these names will appear on you ballot.
Registered Republicans will vote for up to 5 from the following candidates for Republican Parish Executive Committee: Christopher Bailey, Betsy Otken Barnes, Patrick “Pat” Broderick, Cecil Cavanaugh, “Dan” Claitor, Jason Engen, “Tommy” French, Louis “Woody” Jenkins, and Scott McKnight.
Registered Democrats will vote for up to 5 from the following candidates for Democratic Parish Executive Committee: “Matt” Atkinson, Daniel Banguel, “Brien” Buxton, Dawn Collins, Eugene Collins, Kirk Green, Carolyn Hill, Donald Hodge, Jr., Dalton Honore, II, “Pete” Martinez, Tia Mills, Tania Nyman, Larry C. Selders, Mary Ellen Slayter, Shashonnie Steward, and Dean “Deaneaux” Vicknair.
Some registered Democrats will also be voting for one candidate for the Democratic State Central Committee.  Whether this appears on your ballot will depend on the representative district in which you live.
