IMG_2735b    The Central Private Rebels boys' basketball team completed an amazing turnaround and won the MAIS District 5AAA Championship, defeating the Silliman Wildcats 40-37 on February 6. The Rebels went from worst to first, winning the district title after finishing last in the 2015 season.
Coach Patrick Yomtob did an amazing job in leading the Rebels to a district title in his first year with the team. He said, "It was a total team effort. Our boys played hard and always had faith they could win district. I am very proud of this team."
Alec Martin led the Rebels with 11 points, including a layup with less than a minute to go to give the Rebels the lead. Cade Sanchez then sealed the win with two free throws with seconds remaining. Sanchez finished with 10 points. All the starters scored and contributed to the victory: Gavyn Andre 8, Canaan Thomas 7, Thomas Richardson 3, and Landon Bryson 1. All the Rebels played stellar defense, stifling the Wildcats' potent offense.
Central Private, 21-8, advanced to play Simpson Academy in the South State Tournament. Central Private last won the district title in 2013 when they completed the season as Overall Champions in the MAIS.
Congratulations to the Rebels and Coach Yomtob on a great and memorable season.
