ARPA Cleaning Up Again: Young Volunteers Keeping Amite River Tidy

By  |

ARPA 5The Amite River Preservation Association (ARPA) is back at it, spending the summer taking trash out of and off of the banks of the Amite River.  ARPA members have been donating big chunks of their summers for years in their efforts to clear trash from the river.  ARPA has in the past been honored by the Central City Council and former Mayor Mac Watts, as well as the Amite River Basin Commission.  They were named the 2011 Central Citizens of the Year by Central’s non-profit organizations.  They also received the 2011 Keep Louisiana Beautiful “Outstanding Youth Leadership” Award and the 2013 Keep Louisiana Beautiful Grant.  As ARPA gets their efforts underway again this year, they are in need of financial assistance to keep the cause going through the purchase of garbage bags and gas for their boat. You can find the Amite River Preservation Association on Facebook, and you can donate by mailing a check to ARPA, 24141 Greenwell Springs Rd, Central LA 70739.
