CFD Responds to Kitchen Fire on Forest Grove Ave

By  |

From Central Fire Department
Another residential fire started in the kitchen sent the Central Fire Department to the 14700 block of Forest Grove Tuesday afternoon.  The call was received at 2:11 pm and when the first crews arrived, smoke was pouring out of the residence.  The occupants had self evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival which allowed firefighters to make an immediate offensive attack on the fire, controlling it within minutes.  The kitchen suffered heavy damage, displacing the mother and two children residing in the apartment.  Fortunately, the American Red Cross is assisting the family. East Side and District Six Fire Departments assisted at the scene and covered an empty Central station.
Residential structure fires started in kitchens have been the cause of numerous responses for the Central Fire Department recently.  Captain Derek Glover cautioned residents to practice safe habits when cooking and to be sure and change batteries in their smoke detectors. Glover stated "these fires cause considerable damage to homes and pose a direct threat to occupants."
