From Central Fire Department
On Tuesday morning at 10:53 am, the Central Fire Department was dispatched along with the East Side Fire Department to assist with a building fire in Livingston Parish.  The fire was at the Magnolia Respiratory & Medical Equipment located at 235 Florida St. in Denham Springs.  On arrival, the Denham Springs Fire Incident Commander assigned all East Baton Rouge Parish apparatus and personnel to the rear of the structure along with Livingston Parish Fire District 5 Fire Department.
Firefighters were faced with a two story building heavily involved with fire and threatening a nearby building.  While the main building was destroyed by fire, firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the adjacent building. Central firefighters remained on scene for five hours, with Central's engine pumping over 250,000 gallons of water to the Livingston Parish Fire District 5 tower ladder. Central Fire Department Deputy Chief Charles Mondrick stated the construction of the building created numerous void spaces, which allowed the fire to spread rapidly throughout the building.  The rear half of the building also had a double roof which created additional obstacles for firefighters.  There were no injuries to firefighters and all Central apparatus and personnel cleared the scene shortly after 3:00 pm.
