Wilson Family Shares Athletic Legacy

By  |

Barbara and Jewell Wilson are pictured above with their seven grandchildren, all of whom can claim major achievements in athletics.  Read the story on page 10.  Pictured left to right are Micah Wilson, Tana McClure, Cole Wilson, Todd McClure, Brady Wilson, Sydney Wilson, and Trey McClure.
If you don’t know Barbara and Jewell Wilson and you have been to a sporting event in the Central area, there is a good chance you have seen them there.  Barbara and Jewell have attended literally thousands of ball games over the years watching their kids and grandkids compete at baseball fields, softball diamonds, basketball gyms, and football stadiums.
It’s rare to have all seven grandkids – one granddaughter and six grandsons – play ball and compete at the college level.  State championships in high school team sports are hard to come by, but between the Wilsons’ seven grandchildren, they managed to play in eleven state championships, winning eight.  This included six baseball championships, two football championships, and state runner-ups in basketball, football, and baseball.
“It’s been great, and we feel blessed.  Not only to have athletic grandkids, but for them to be humble and productive citizens,” said the Wilsons.  “We feel fortunate to have our kids, grandkids, and now great-grandkids provide us with years of athletic entertainment beyond expectations.”
Not many grandparents can say they had grandchildren whose athletic accomplishments include 14 years in the NFL, 3 NCAA baseball world series in Omaha, a NCAA softball world series in Oklahoma City, a NSCAA world series in Oklahoma, several bowl and conference championship games, academic and athletic All-American awards, serving as team captains, and possibly more to add to the list with two grandkids still on college.
