The Roundabout Has Arrived – Here’s How to Use It

By  |

Here are the rules for driving in a roundabout:
1.  On the approach to a roundabout, you should start slowing down to 10 – 15 mph.  Stay in your lane to the right of the splitter island.  Be sure to look for bicyclists or pedestrians wanting to cross.
2.  You may have to stop for cars approaching from your left.  If the road is clear to your left, simply enter the roundabout turning right and go around the circle.  You don’t have to stop if there are no cars approaching from your left.  There are no stop signs at a roundabout – if no one is coming, go ahead and enter the circle. This keeps everyone moving and prevents stop-and-go traffic. Traffic in the circle has the right-of-way.
3.  Use a blinker to indicate where you will be exiting the circle and then exit carefully to your right at the appropriate side street or driveway.
