Summer Fun Ideas!

By  |

Now that summer is half way over, we’re sure the kids are getting anxious. They’ve been to the beach, played all their video games, seen the newest movies and now they’re just “bored”.

Here are just a few ideas for the entire family that you may not have thought about before. It’s a brand new way to look at Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas:

Alligator Bayou

Located not too far off Highland Road, Alligator Bayou offers eco-swamp tours through 13,000 acres of the Spanish Lake Basin. In addition to the boat tour, there is an alligator farm, alligator-snapping turtle viewing area, a bobcat exhibit and beautiful scenic views featuring an 800-year-old bald cypress and much more.

Daily tours are available so visit www.alligatorbayou.com for more information.

Baton Rouge Little Theater

Opening this month is the Mel Brooks comedy, “The Producers”

This show runs from July 3rd-July 27th. Show times are 2:30 pm or 7:00 pm depending on the date and the cost is $25 per person.

For more information, visit www.brlt.org or call 924-6496. We would also suggest calling to find out the recommended and appropriate age group.

Also, The Baton Rouge Little Theater is offering High School Advanced Acting and Play Production classes in July. Additional info can also be found on their website.

Skating and Laser Tag

Located on the corner of Old Jefferson Hwy and Pecue Lane, Skate Galaxy has taken skating and other kid friendly activities to the EXTREME! Skating is offered Tuesday-Sunday for $6.00 plus skate rental. Parents and kids can enjoy Retro Night on Tuesdays, Hip Hop Night on Wednesdays and even Christian skate night on Fridays.

In addition, check out the Rock wall ($4 per climb) and Laser Tag ($5 per game), soft play area and arcade.

They will also be having a Fourth of July spectacular with special pricing so be sure to check it out!

The Baton Rouge Zoo is having a Frozen Safari to teach about animal wellness and how the animals stay cool on hot summer days and a Twilight Safari on Wednesday evenings in July. Visit www.brzoo.org for more info.

The Bluebonnet Swamp is offering Swamp Night Hikes in August. This is an educational hike led by the nature staff into the Bluebonnet Swamp after dark!
