Mrs. Dykes Receives Grant for CHS
Mrs. Cindy Dykes, who is the Business Education teacher for CHS, wrote a grant proposal for the H&R Block Dollars & Sense Grant. The grant aims to ready young people for a solid financial future by educating them and preparing them for financial success in the world after high school. Mrs. Dykes was informed this week that she had won the grant for Central High School. Cogratulations and thank you to Mrs. Dykes for making this happen. The notification letter about the grant is as follows:
April 1, 2010
Dear CHS,
Increasing the financial fitness of Americans is an area in which H&R Block has become increasingly passionate. We believe the first step to a more financially stable future begins with educating today’s teens and helping them to be prepared for the real world with an understanding of personal finance.
I’m thrilled to inform you that Central High School has been selected to receive a curriculum grant from H&R Block Dollars & Sense™ based on the application you submitted. We appreciate your enthusiasm for teaching your students these valuable personal finance lessons and are confident this curriculum will help meet an important need.
In addition to utilizing the provided curriculum, we hope your students will participate in the H&R Block Dollars & Sense National Challenge next fall. The National Challenge provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate personal finance skills and compete for $50,000 College scholarships.
The curriculum package, including Virtual Business® – Personal Finance software from Knowledge Matters, will be shipped by May 1. The simulation-based educational software offers students realistic situations and challenges around 18 financial topics. Your license is a full site license and may be used at your school on as many computers as desired, for as long as desired. Congratulations again and thank you for teaching your students the essentials of personal finance.
Sincerely,
Kathy Collins
