Political Truth #4: Central Must Have a Police Chief

By  |
CENTRAL FIRST BLUEb largerThe City of Central is a Lawrason Act municipality and is required by law to have an elected or appointed Chief of Police. Central’s Chief is elected. While the EBR Sheriff’s Office, supported by our property taxes, is the primary law enforcement agency, the Central Police Chief and Central’s volunteer and paid officers are fully authorized to enforce the law.
The single duty required by law of the Central Police Department is to investigate all traffic accidents within the city limits. All of the other services and protections of the Central Police Department are benefits we receive for funding the Department. Other services of the CPD include event and public meeting security, traffic control, and responding to calls for assistance.
