Celebrate Central: Rock Foundation Update

Former Central resident Brett Medlin has achieved several  milestones already this year with the mission he founded in 2010 (see Central Speaks article March 25, 2013).  Rock Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to serving the poorest population in Cambodia.  The 501(c)3 organization builds housing for the displaced, creates job opportunities, and creates self-sufficiency through drilling wells for water and planting gardens for sustenance.  Recently Brett met with Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister, His Excellency Yim Chhay Ly, to discuss the programs that Rock Foundation supports in this poverty stricken country.  The discussion proved very fruitful, with the Deputy Prime Minister open to the possibility of creating a program which could allow Rock Foundation to import drilling rigs and other needed vehicles into Cambodia without tax.  They also discussed forming a partnership with the ministries of Health and Agriculture, which would enable Rock Foundation to bypass bureaucratic red tape and increase its ability to help those who need it most.  Though this agreement has not been finalized, it is a huge step in progress!
Rock Foundation has also been very successful in drilling wells, with 38 functional water wells being created so far this year.  They have also rebuilt 7 houses that burned down in one of the relocation villages.  Fires such as these are common where families typically use gas lamps to light their homes. The houses were rebuilt using non-flammable materials to prevent a recurrence of such a dangerous situation.  3 local churches – Zoar Baptist, Journey, and Cornerstone Fellowship are in partnership with this mission effort.  If you wish to help Rock Foundation, you can go to their website at  Or you can send donations to their U.S. address: 17512 Lake Ct., Greenwell Springs, 70739.  Your prayers are greatly appreciated.  Our city can be proud of our ties to this great organization!
