The CHS Color Guard has experienced some extra struggles this year, as has everyone in Central, with the historic flooding of 2016.  The guard had more than half of their team displaced during the floods, with more than a few of the girls losing their show uniforms, practice uniforms, and other guard gear.  The team weathered the storm and returned to school to get busy working on their 2016 show when they were dealt another blow.  The guard closet at the school where they house all of their equipment, including some uniforms, was discovered to have been taken over by mold, and all of their equipment would have to be professionally cleaned, and some items would have to be thrown out.  The girls were once again shattered.  How could they perform now?
The need for donations started going out, and the cavalry arrived.  The community started to send in monetary donations, and the students started to bring in donations to guard sponsor Amanda Navarre.  The CHS volleyball team donated t-shirts for the girls to wear for one performance, and the LSU guard donated poles.  LA Stars donated t-shirts for the Meet the Wildcats performance, and they also donated the flags that were used during the Hall of Fame Game (pictured).  Help came from as far away as Texas, with Alvarado High and Parkway High teaming up with Estelle Murr from Northwestern State University to provide flags, sabers, rifles, shoes, uniforms, and props.  The girls must have thought it was Christmas when choreographer Madalynn Couvillon returned from Northwestern (where they attend auxiliary camp every summer) with an array of items to choose from.  It was now time to get to work.
The CHS Marching Band attended its first competition of the year Saturday at McNeese State University, where the band received an overall Superior rating, with Best in Class honors going to the Color Guard and Drum Majors.  Congratulations to the Wildcat Band, CHS Color Guard, Band Director James Henderson, Color Guard Sponsor Amanda Navarre, and Color Guard Choreographer Madalynn Couvillon.  The guard would like to thank everyone for their continued support!
