8000 Mormon Helping Hands Set to Provide Flood Cleanup in Southern Louisiana

WHAT: MUDOUTS
In response to Governor Edwards’ plea for faith-based organizations to respond by helping families clean out their homes, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is expecting to bring as many as 5,000 “Mormon Helping Hands” volunteers from surrounding states to help remove sheetrock and debris from homes hit by recent flooding over the next 3 weekends. 

WHEN:  Beginning Saturday, August 20th and Sunday August 21st, 8:00am 
WHO: 500+ Church members from Mississippi and Louisiana
WHERE: LDS church at 2503 Old Baton Rouge Hwy, Hammond, LA 
and 4901 Harding Street, Baker, LA    Service will be concentrated in Livingston Parish

WHO: 7000+ Volunteers from Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida (3500 each weekend)
WHEN: August 27-28, Sept 3-4
WHERE: LDS Church at 10533 Highland Road, Baton Rouge—service in greater Baton Rouge area and Livingston Parish.
    WHY:  “We find real happiness when we think and act outside of ourselves. That is true, Christ-like joy.  When “Helping Hands” arrive, our hope and prayer is that we are a breath of fresh air. People start to feel some hope amid all the devastation.” —Denham Springs, LA Stake President Chris W. Hollis, co-organizer of the event.  
    “As followers of Jesus Christ, He asks us to be His hands. Mormon Helping Hands is our attempt to obey that council and demonstrate an outpouring of His love to our friends and neighbors through service to them.” —Baton Rouge, LA Stake President, Eric Bascom, co-organizer of the event.
    Requests for assistance cleaning out homes can be made by calling this hotline 1-800-451-1954 which is being used as a source for many relief organizations doing mudouts.
