In Memoriam: Mildred B Rushing Wood

Mildred B Rushing Wood went to her heavenly home on June 19, 2016 after a lengthy battle of Alzheimer's disease at the age of 81. She is survived by one daughter and son in law, Lisa and Danny Magee and two sons and daughter-in-law, Scott and Sheri Rushing and Brent Rushing, former daughter in law Lisa Ter Haar Rushing, five grandchildren, Julie Magee, Megan Rushing, Amanda Rushing, Christian Rushing and Colin Rushing and one great grand daughter, Emma Quistgaard, brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Sharon Browning, Roger Browning, and Charles and Mary Jane Browning and sisters and brothers-in-law,  Dottie Fauntleroy, Joyce and Sonny Baker, Lois Mason, Meryl Alexander, and Aline Browning as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husbands the late Jim Rushing and the late Archie Wood, parents Willie and Cibell Browning and brothers Edward, Vernon Ray and Derry Browning. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church and a Past Worthy Matron of the Central Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had a deep love of her family and of the Lord.  She lived most of her life in the City of Central and had a kind and tender nature and sweet smile. She was a 1953 graduate Central High School. She was one of the first female keypunch operators who worked for the city of New Orleans in the late 1950's, became a Vice President of Gulf Union Mortgage in the 1970's and finished her career at Gateway Properties. Her family extends their deepest appreciation to her sisters who helped care for her, the loving caregivers at the House of Estelle who provided care to her for over 8 years. Visitation will be held at Zoar Baptist Church, Central, from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
