On February 27, the Central Middle School Science Olympiad team went to the regional competition at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for the first time in school history. There are also events where students build machines to see which one performs a cut above the rest. The team did great placing second overall. This qualified them to go to the state competition, which was on Saturday, April 9 at Southeastern Louisiana University. Daniel Jenkins and Myrissa Eisworth, the Air Trajectory team, placed second at the state competition. Overall, the entire team placed 7th in the state competition. The team’s coach, Allison Coleman, who teaches Gifted Science at Central Middle School and the electrician’s class at Central High School, said that they did well for their first year and that she is hopeful for next year.
