School Board Fails to Publish Minutes

By  |

The Central Community School Board is required by state law to publish the minutes of each School Board meeting in the official journal within twenty days.  Central’s School Board appears not to have published its minutes since 2014.
The Advocate is the Central School System’s official journal, and the “Public Notices” section of Wednesday’s newspaper contained fifteen month’s worth of minutes of Central School Board meetings dating as far back as January 12, 2015.
Reached for comment, Superintendent Faulk explained that an internal failure resulted in the School System not sending the minutes in for publication.  Once The Advocate made the School System aware of the problem, the minutes of over twenty meetings were submitted for publication.
State law provides that all school boards “shall publish all minutes, ordinances, resolutions, budgets and other official proceedings of the police jury, town or city councils, or the school board.” State law also provides for fines and penalties for failing to publish the minutes of a meeting within twenty days.
