Central Feeding Central Food Drive a Huge Success

By  |

CFCb    The most common phrase we hear is "I didn't know Central has a food bank." Well, we do and we have for the past 27 years. The City of Central Food Bank had been run by Pete and Anna Marie Grissom and distributed through the Central Fire Station. Due to Mr. Grissom’s death in August of this year and Mrs. Grissom’s health issues the food bank has continued to distribute assistance with the help of Michelle Lewis & Kevin Keithly. Michelle, Kevin, and the new City of Central Food Bank board of directors felt it was time for the food bank to get a real home. As of last Monday the City of Central Food Bank has secured a new home on Hooper Road. The new location will be open after the first of the year a couple of days a week in order to better serve the needy and seniors in the community of Central.
The Central Feeding Central food drive in memory of Dennis M. Lewis of Lewis' Wrecker Service, Inc., who passed away in January of 2013 is on its last week of collection. December 7 will wind up the 2015 food drive benefiting the City of Central Food Bank. Donations this year have been outstanding! Donations from Central Middle School, Central Intermediate School, Central High School, and Blackwater United Methodist Church are just a few of the trailer loads of food donations we have received so far.
On November 21, 2015, Winn Dixie hosted a one day Mega Food Drive for Central Feeding Central. The donations were phenomenal! In 6 hours the Central Community came out in full force. Non-perishable food items filled the back of the van we were using. Our best guess is 2500 lbs of food. Not to mention the 26 turkeys that were donated. Central Feeding Central was able to provide full Thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings to 16 Central families. We plan to provide complete Christmas dinners as well. On behalf of the Lewis family, I would like to thank everyone who has supported Central Feeding Central in memory of my father Dennis M. Lewis. Without the Central businesses who place food barrels and money buckets in their businesses, Central Speaks who ran the food drive ad in their paper for weeks leading up to the Mega Food Drive, the entire Central community rallying together for such a great cause none of this would be possible. It warms our hearts that Central Feeding Central always has such an outstanding response from our community.

There will be another Mega Food Drive at Winn Dixie on December 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Thank You!
Michelle Lewis
