CAPA Corner: We Are Spoiled!

By  |

Recently my wife and I were terribly inconvenienced for 12 full hours!  We could not use our kitchen sink because of a drip.  We had to walk to the bathroom to get a glass of water.  Imagine that!  No running water at our fingertips! Now the dishwasher was okay, and of course we could still get ice and water from the refrigerator.  But for 12 hours, we had to endure the misery of no running water in the kitchen sink!
Well, somehow we survived.  And obviously I am exaggerating the issue to make a point.  We are so spoiled!  We have so much!  And when a little bit of our “so much” gets turned off for a fraction of a minute, we collapse!  Consider your panic when your cell phone is lost!
Recently, we had the privilege of having Pastor Robert Makona in Central.  He spoke in Central churches, ate in our homes, and preached a great message in the Central Football Stadium.  Now Robert is from the rural areas around Kitale, Kenya, Africa!  He has so little compared to the average family in the USA.  His vehicles are 30 years old, there is no running water or electricity in his house.  A solar panel charges a battery all day long and keeps 2 light bulbs glowing for 2 hours each night!  No WiFi!  Really, hardly any income!
Here are two conclusions for your consideration.  First, we should be thankful for what we have, and quit griping and complaining so much! Second, we should be quick to share our “so much” with others around us and around the world who have so little!  I am thankful that churches and individuals in Central gave generously so that Pastor Robert could buy a nice 5 year old vehicle for his traveling ministry back in Kenya.
Check out the example of Jesus – “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9)
