Mayor Acknowledges P&Z Appointments Improper

    At Tuesday's Council meeting Mayor Shelton admitted that the City Council's reappointment of two Planning and Zoning members "was done without proper notice." This is a violation of Central's law as found in Code Section 1.501(c) which requires the City Council to give public notice of the Commission vacancies so that other interested citizens may apply for appointment to the commission.
    Later in the same meeting, in reference to the Mayor's signing of a real estate contract without approval of the City Council, Councilman Wayne Messina stated that "Nothing, absolutely nothing, that this city administration has done is illegal…."
    City Planning and Zoning attorney Mark Balkin, in a memo released last week concerning the unlawful reappointment of the Commission members stated "We believe that the City should comply with its own Code – that the reappointments should be considered ineffective…"
