The Central Chamber Report

By  |

Are you board? No, it’s not a typo!  If you are bored I would like to give you an opportunity to be part of a BOARD, that will keep you from being bored – the Central Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors!
The Central Chamber is a nonprofit 501c6 organization.  Our bylaws state that the direction and decision making responsibility of the organization rests with the Board of Directors.  There are currently sixteen positions on the Central Board of Directors and four of those positions come up for election every year.  The Board members are elected from among and by the Central Chamber Membership.  The current Board is comprised of Stephen David – Chairman, Michael Loolara – 1st Vice Chair, Heidi Wendt – 2nd Vice Chair, Kevin Rogers – Treasurer, Wayne Leader – Past Chair, Walton Barnes, Brockwell Bone, Reda Cockerham, Si Kora, John Kovalcik, Tim Lazaroe, Michelle Lewis, Aaron Moak, Tommie Morden, Lucky Ross and Russell Starns.  Thanks to these individuals for their dedication to serving the Central Chamber!
Every year, in August and September, a Nomination Committee starts collecting names of those members that are interested in serving on the Board of Directors.    Once a list is formed, that list is sent to all the membership and finally an election is held at the November Investors Meeting.   The main requirements to qualify for election are: you must be a member, have been a member for at least a year, be listed as a member’s representative, and have time to handle the Board’s obligations.  The Board Members’  duties include but are not limited to the following: attend a Board meeting each month, attend an annual planning meeting, organize the Chamber’s plan of work, attend Chamber functions, serve on committees and provide oversight of the CEO.  So with that being said, I ask “Are you Board Material?”  The position on the Board of Directors lasts for four years and you definitely will not get bored!
