CHS Grad Wins Swamp Pop Jambalaya Cook-Off

By  |

jambalaya3b    Brandon Henry, a 21 year old alumnus of Central High School, shocked veteran cooks last Saturday when he beat out 80 other highly experienced competitors to win the 2015 Swamp Pop Festival Jambalaya Cook-Off in Gonzales.
The Swamp Pop Festival is a fundraising event that brings in thousands of people every year to raise money for cystic fibrosis research.  The festival features swamp pop music and a jambalaya cook-off in “The Jambalaya Capital of the World.”
Brandon won with his friend and helper, Jon Satterwhite, who also graduated from Central High.  This was their first time cooking competitively together.  The cook-off was divided into two heats, and 26 of the 80+ cooks in the competition moved on to the second heat.  First, second, and third place prizes were awarded.  Brandon and Jon won over $400, and they donated their winnings back to cystic fibrosis research.
Special thanks go to Travis Babin, Brandon’s “coach” who helped get him up and running with cooking jambalaya competitively, and to Ascension Fasteners, who sponsored Brandon for the cook-off.
Brandon is the son of Wayne and Hiedi Henry, and Jon is the son of Bill and Mary Satterwhite.  Congratulations are in order for taking first in one of the most prestigious jambalaya cook-offs out there!
