Louisiana Tobacco Tax: Let CIS Help You Quit and Save

By  |

By Cardiovascular Institute of the South
As of July 1, Louisiana legislature has increased the state tobacco tax, raising the cost of a pack of cigarettes by 50 cents.  This increase may be incentive needed by some Louisiana residents to quit smoking and save money.
For those ready to quit, Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) offers a free tobacco cessation program which combines physician evaluations, medications (both prescription and over-the-counter), and supportive counseling sessions (both individually and as a group).  CIS physicians work with patients to plan a quit date and determine what medications and supportive services would be best.
This program is free of charge to Louisiana residents who have smoked a cigarette before September of 1988. If a patient does not meet these criteria, some services may be still be paid for, and health insurance may cover some portions of the program as well.
To sign up, call or visit the CIS clinic nearest you.  You can also enroll by visiting www.smokingcessationtrust.org/CIS.
