The Central Chamber Report: Surviving the Growing Pains

By  |

Growing Pains is the title of a television show that focused on the joy of raising children.  I can remember when my first child started crawling. There was such excitement and the anticipation of the soon coming ability to walk.  We couldn't wait for the day our child could walk.  Once they started walking, it wasn't long before I missed the days of crawling.  Keeping up with our exploring speedster became an ongoing chore.   I realized that no matter how hectic the toddler stage was compared to the crawling phase, it was a necessary transition in the growth and maturity of my child.
I relate that story because it is a representation of our great city.  This year the Central Chamber and the City of Central turn 10.  I remember the excitement of our city forming and the anticipation of soon having our own school system.  Along the way towards these great accomplishments, many scoffed and doubted our ability to complete the journey.  Ten years later we are not just surviving but thriving.
Now we embark on the next 10 years.  The excitement of our accomplishments gives way to growing pains.  Growing pains like the widening of Sullivan Road, solving the sewer issues, adding school buildings, new subdivisions, roundabouts and many others.  At times it may feel like we are trying to keep up with a toddler speedster. However, many of these changes are necessary in the long term sustainability of our city and our school system.  So hold on, be engaged and help us continue to mature.  Soon a smooth steady pace will develop, along with mature experience, and we will then be running a smooth steady race towards strong future!
