10 Reasons to Support St. Jude Bike-A-Thon

By  |

CENTRAL FIRST BLUE b    The St. Jude Bike-A-Thon is at 8:30 on May 9th at Magnolia Square.  Here are ten reasons to ride or make a pledge in support of this great cause.
    1) St. Jude Children’s Hospital exists solely to prevent and cure pediatric catastrophic diseases, it’s for our children.
    2) Many here in Central know one of the Central children who have been treated at St. Jude.
    3) Since opening in 1962, treatments invented at St. Jude have pushed the childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to over 80 percent.
    4) Central’s Chuck Langlois has faithfully put on the Central St. Jude Bikathon every year since 1984.  This is year 32.
    5) Families NEVER receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food.
    6) It is worth coming out to the Bike-A-Thon just to watch the excitement of the children starting the race, most unaware of the mission or impact of St. Jude, but some who are currently undergoing treatment through St. Jude for a life-threatening childhood disease.
    7) St. Jude is the only National Cancer Institute dedicated solely to the treatment of children and has more than 67,000 patient visits each year
    8) The Bike-A-Thon is a great Central social event.  It is worth the short trip to Magnolia Square on Lovett Road just to visit with friends and watch the event.
    9) St. Jude has helped increase the survival rates for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) from 4% before opening in 1962 to 94% today.
    10) Because if a few dollars, or a few minutes, or a few laps around the track on your bike help make a lifetime of difference for even one child, it is time and effort well spent
Take this next two weeks to get pledges and come out Saturday May 9th and ride, or find a rider and make a pledge.  Entry forms are available at Sullivan Hardware, or sign up at the event itself.  For more information call us at Central Speaks at 262-3730.  Helping children is Good News for a Great City.
