Gerald_Birchb    Gerald Norman “Buddy” Birch, born on April 29, 1928, passed into Glory at 10:35 a.m. on February 18, 2015. He was 86, a resident of Greenwell Springs, and retired Parts Manager of Crawler Supply. Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janie Smith Birch, three children and their spouses, Baxter and Bonnie Birch (Greenwell Springs), Carmen and Jeff Beasley (Baker), and Kyle and Belinda Birch (Ruston); grandchildren, Amanda and Scott Witte, Courtney Beasley, Ashley Birch, and Brooke and Austin Birch; a great grandchild, Lyla Witte; two brothers, Ladell and Kenneth Birch; two sisters, Jeanne Krebs and Joyce Watson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mabel Birch; brothers Roy and Dewey Birch; and sisters, Maude Henderson, Lena Barnett, and Shirley Frazier.
In a world saturated with unfulfilled promises and empty words, he clearly communicated love for his family and friends through his actions of loyalty and service. His character was one of meekness, composure, high principles, and adoration for his beloved wife and family. Never one to remain idle, he exhibited forbearance in his business ventures and pastimes, always putting great effort into every undertaking. He found joy in sharing precious time with his family, reminiscing of days gone by, and creating new memories for his children and grandchildren to carry with them. He treasured his wife for 50+ years, never faltering in his complete and absolute faithfulness to her. He has gifted his family with many wonderful years of leadership, devotion, and a legacy of love and dedication. We are lifted from our sorrow through peace in knowing that his body is now whole and he is in the presence of God, praising the one who sustained and comforted him throughout his life, even to his very last breath. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the staff of The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice.
