Central Crime Awareness

By  |

Central Speaks is embarking on an effort to raise community awareness and public safety through increased responsible reporting about crimes in Central.
Central is arguably one of the safest communities in the area, but no city is crime-free.  Community awareness is one of the biggest weapons available to KEEP Central safe, so join Central Speaks in taking steps to keep everyone aware of the crime issues in Central.
Citizens’ efforts play a key role in safeguarding the community.  First and foremost, let the professional law enforcement agencies respond to all suspicious activity or known crimes. Citizens are discouraged from taking law into their own hands.  However, raising community awareness about what crimes have occurred helps both law enforcement agencies and Central’s citizens, and Central Speaks readers can help in this effort.
If you are aware of crime and public safety issues that you feel the community needs to know about, send your information to [email protected] or call the paper at 262-3730.  Central Speaks will make efforts to get accurate information and responsibly print the details each week.  Also, pay attention to the Crime Stoppers article printed every week identifying fugitives with possible ties to this area.
In addition to obtaining details from the authorities regarding crimes, Central Speaks will be proactively requesting information from local police authorities which those authorities feel should be made known to the community.  Area law enforcement agencies have been contacted are fully cooperative and agree that community awareness increases public safety.
In this process Central Speaks will always report responsibly.  The names and addresses of crime victims will not be used.  Public awareness is enhanced knowing there are burglaries in a certain subdivision, but disclosing names and addresses only infringes on privacy.  Similarly, Central Speaks will respect the ongoing investigations of law enforcement agencies and not print anything that would impede their work.
So, while you may notice an increase in the reporting of crime in Central, there is not necessarily a new crime wave, just a new level of awareness to help catch criminals and deter future crimes in Central.  Central Speaks takes the stance that a high degree of public awareness can make Central a less attractive target for crime.
