Signs Signs Everywhere!

By  |

CENTRAL FIRST BLUE b    We have an election coming up on November 4th.  I bet you never would have guessed.  The bad news is that in 2018 our City and School Board and Judge elections will ALL be on one date in the fall, and by my calculations, that should be about 40 candidates.  At 250 signs per candidate, that would be 10,000 signs!
The good news is that the city has a committee looking into our sign ordinance.  Perhaps there will be a shorter time for big political signs, and maybe even smaller signs.  The bad news is that signs tell you little or nothing about the candidates.
So here is our challenge.  Go to the forums, read up on the candidates, and ask your friends who may know them personally.  But, the BEST way to evaluate a candidate is on their track record.  If they are an incumbent, consider how well their office has performed.  If they are a challenger, see what they do for a living and how that has worked out for them.
Loaded with an understanding about who to vote for, you might want to be sure you are actually registered to vote.  The voter registration deadline for the November 4th election is next Monday, October 6th.  YOU CAN REGISTER ON LINE TO VOTE.  Yes, I put that in all caps because it is important and EASY.  Go to http://www.sos.la.gov/ and click on the “Geaux Vote” icon.
Lastly, GO VOTE.  I have somewhat jokingly, but somewhat seriously as well, suggested that if you don’t vote you should not be allowed to complain about what your elected officials do.  Let’s avoid all of that and let’s all go vote November 4th.  That would be Good News for a Great City!
