CFD Responds to Daytona Drive House Fire

By  |

From the Central Fire Department
A pot left on the stove after cooking, with the burner in the on position, was the cause of a kitchen fire Sunday afternoon in the 3700 block of Daytona Drive. Unfortunately, the home's occupants left the home to visit friends and the fire was not discovered until neighbors observed smoke coming from the roof.
Central Firefighters arrived within minutes of the 3:43pm alarm to find smoke coming from the attic area of the residence and neighbors stating they did not know if anyone was home.  Firefighters entered the residence and found a small fire burning the cabinets above the stove with minor extension to the attic.  The fire was quickly extinguished, limiting the damage to approximately $20,000.00.
District Six and East Side Fire Departments responded as part of the first alarm assignment and the Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents.
