Election Results: Central Elects Mayor, Council, Chief of Police

Central elected a new mayor, council, and chief of police on Saturday, and citizens around the parish voted to pass the BREC tax renewal.  The results below are from the Secretary of State's website.  Percentages are rounded to the nearest percent.

Mayor
Jr. Shelton: 59%, 4,546/7,705 votes

Chief of Police
James Salsbury: 52%, 3,944/7,578 votes

City Council
Kim Fralick: 14%, 5,135/36,734 votes
Wayne Messina: 11%, 4,135/36,734 votes
Shane Evans: 11%, 4,031/36,734 votes
John Vance: 11%, 3,984/36,734 votes

Council candidates needed a minimum of 10% of the total number of votes cast for council.  Four seats were filled outright by candidates meeting that number.  There will be a runoff for the fifth council seat between the top two remaining vote getters:
Ralph Washington: 9.87%, 3,625/36,734 votes
Jason Ellis: 8.4%, 3,071/36,734 votes

Yes: 60%, 10,654/17,799 votes

The unofficial voter turnout percentage among registered voters in Central was 37%.

The unofficial parish-wide voter turnout percentage for the BREC tax among registered voters was 6.4%.
