The Wildcats closed their season last Friday at home with a 14-20 loss to #14 seed Covington.  Central ended the season Regional champs, making it to the Quarterfinals of the state playoffs.  Congratulations to the Wildcats on a well-played 11-2 season!
The Quarterfinal game was a tense one with packed stands on both sides of the field.  Covington opened the scoring with a second quarter touchdown.  Central responded with two consecutive touchdowns before the half.  Covington tied it up at the end of the third quarter and went on to take the lead 20-17, missing the final extra point wide right.  Central’s final drive ended 20 yards short of a tying score and Covington ran out the final minutes for the win and a semi-final game against Parkway.
Central played a strong game, collecting 340 yards in offense and winning the battles of first downs and time of possession.  Central’s Defense turned in a strong performance, holding Covington to just over 200 yards total offense and under 40 passing yards.
This Central team finished up with as good a season as has been turned in by any Wildcat team in recent memory.  With a single early season non-district loss to a strong Jesuit team, Central rolled through district play undefeated.  Central was one of eight teams left standing going into last Friday’s quarterfinal playoff appearance.  Looking forward to Central’s next game, less than nine months away!
