Business Spotlight: Flax

Whether you're the intrepid do-it-yourselfer or an experienced drapery seamstress, a visit to "Flax" is like a visit to Santa's workshop.  Yard after yard of beautiful drapery and upholstery fabrics delight the eye, just as the incredibly reasonable prices delight the budget! Owner and lifelong Central resident Liz Kirkindoll wanted to share her love of fabric with others, leading to the opening of her new store, located across the street from the old Starkey Academy.  " I wanted to be able to offer quality textiles at affordable prices, so that my clientele could enjoy beautiful, custom fabrics in their homes," Liz shares.  No stranger to entrepreneurialism with the experience of owning of 3 franchises, Liz's business philosophy is clear: go the extra "yard" to make sure her customers get the very best material at the very best price to meet their exacting requirements.
Liz, who began her love affair with fabrics when her mother taught her seamstressing as a child, has always sewn her own drapery.  A visit to her beautifully appointed home showcases this talent, along with her amazing eye for color combinations and creative, out of the box decorating ideas.  Close inspection of a richly colored accent wall in her living room reveals it to be covered in, that's right, Fabric!  She is glad to take time with her clients to help them choose just the right color to complement existing artwork or upholstery, or to help them branch out into a whole new world of self-expression. She will gladly recommend a professional seamstress or interior decorator if her clients require it.
Featuring textiles from many fabric mills, including Mississippi based Premier Prints and Magnolia Fabrics, “Flax” offers a rainbow of colors and an entire floor of neutrals. Chevrons, geometrics, organic designs, and stylish stamped patterns are displayed in a huge variety of "fun to elegant" materials from kid-friendly blends to rich brocades.  Designers like Tommy Bahama, Waverly, Kaufmann, Schumacher and Robert Allen can all be found at amazingly affordable prices.
"Flax" is based on a 30 year successful model of a store in Mississippi.  Liz herself personally sorted through literally thousands of bolts of fabric to select the very best, most popular patterns and materials.  Come and see and be inspired!  You're just a step away from a lovely, tastefully decorated home.  "Flax Fresh Fabrics for the Home", Thursday, Friday, Saturday 10:00-5:00.  10443 Joor Rd. 225-810-3188.  [email protected], like it on Facebook!
