John & Marina Armistead Celebrate 60th Anniversary

    John and Marina Armistead are celebrating their 60th anniversary.  They were married on this day in 1953 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Roanoke, Virginia.  The couple have 2 children: Mia Freneaux. married to Dave Freneaux of Central, and Elizabeth Andrews. married to Ron Andrews of Richmond, Virginia. They are blessed with 5 grandchildren: Beth and JT Fussell, and Michelle Freneaux, all of Central, and William and Peter Andrews of Richmond. John is a World War II Air Corps veteran and was employed as an engineer for 35 years with the Army Corps of Engineers in Research and Development.  Marina is a writer, artist, thespian, and avid card player.  They moved to Central from Virginia in 2012 to be near their daughter.  A celebration with the entire family is planned in December.  When asked the secret to a long marriage, they responded, "A marriage is like two rough rocks that have to rub together til they become smooth. It takes lots of love and lots of patience."
