Family Friendly Central

By  |

Central is a great community, but we often have to leave town to find family-friendly entertainment.  Well…next Thursday we can all stay right here.  Several weeks ago I noticed that BREC has a “Movie in the Park” program that brings outdoor showings of movies on their 20 foot screen to communities in EBR.  All it took was a few phone calls and an agreement to personally sponsor and provide advertising for the event and Dr. Seuss is on his way to Central’s Lovett Road Park next week with “The Lorax”.
The show starts at 7PM next Thursday, 10/17, at Lovett Road Park and should be over before 9, (Remember that public school students are off that Friday). Popcorn and drinks are free so bring the kids, and blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the show and time with the family.  BREC will also sell hot dogs and nachos.  I hope this will be the first of many of these and have asked BREC to see how well this one goes and consider allowing us to sponsor them on a regular basis.
This event really highlights the need for us, as a community, to be sure that we work hard to make Central not only a safe place to give our children a great education, but a place where those same young families can spend time having affordable fun together.  Football, baseball and softball leagues are of course a big part of our children’s lives.  Add in dance studios, cheerleading, drama, and music and we have a great foundation for young families.  But let’s go one step further and look for opportunities like “Movie in the Park” that add pure family fun to the mix.
Mia and I raised Beth and Michelle right here in Central and now they have chosen to make Central their home as adults.  I believe that the better job we do in providing opportunities for young adults and young families, the more likely we are to be able to watch our grandchildren grow up in this great community.  So, if you have an idea for Family-Friendly-Fun and would like help organizing or publicizing it, call me, Dave Freneaux, at 262-3730 and let me see if I can help make it happen.  Family Friendly Opportunities are Good News for a Great City.
