A Reason to Relay

Over the next couple of months, you may see and hear a good bit about Central Relay for Life.  The event is coming on November 16th and we are looking for participants.  Relay for Life is a major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, but it is much more than that.  Relay is an opportunity to honor those in our lives who have been affected by cancer, personally or through someone they love.  It is also a chance to remember those we have lost to cancer.  Relay for Life is a fun community event, and it brings people together for a cause that is meaningful to everyone present.  I don’t know anyone who has not seen a friend, a loved one, or a relative of someone close to them go through cancer or lose someone to cancer.  It’s something that truly has an impact on everyone.  Everyone has a reason to Relay.
I got involved in Relay for Life in honor of my friend’s father who was going through cancer treatment at the time.  He has since passed away, but he inspired a whole group of people to fundraise and participate in Relay for Life in the hope that we can make a difference for the future.  I have several friends and family members who have gone through cancer treatment, and they, too are a reason I stay involved in Relay for Life.
So what can you do to help?
Form a team:  Teams can be any number of friends, organization members, or coworkers who would like to fundraise and participate in the Relay for Life event.
Donate:  Sponsorships are available for the Relay for Life event, or individuals can donate to a specific team or to Relay in general.
Participate:  Come out on the day of Relay to experience a meaningful, family-friendly event.  If you are a cancer survivor, you can sign up to be a part of Relay as an individual or as part of a team.
Support:  There will be several fundraisers going on around Central leading up to the Relay event, so consider supporting one or more of those fundraisers.
For more information on any of these options or about Relay for Life in general, email [email protected] or call 978-7025.
Think about the loved ones in your life, and find your reason to Relay.
