Letter to the Editor: Story of Theft, with a Happy Ending

By  |

My father, Tommy Linxwiler, and I own LINX ELECTRIC www.linxelectric.com .   Our main office is located in Saint Amant, La at 13737 Diversion Canal Road and we also have a satellite office in Central on the corner of Joor Rd. and Sullivan Rd.
Our office in Central was robbed in the early morning hours this Monday.  We called the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department, and an officer Norton was dispatched to the scene.  Officer Norton took down the details, and provided us with a file number.
Within 4 hours, Tommy Linxwiler received a phone call from the EBR Sheriff’s department that a truck was found at the dollar store with wire, tools, and equipment in the bed.  It didn’t take long for him to figure out that the equipment in the truck was property of LINX ELECTRIC.  Tommy raced to meet the detectives who had arrested a young male, who was the driver of the vehicle.  They allowed Tommy to briefly identify our tools and equipment to make a positive decision on the arrest.
Tomorrow morning we are meeting the officers to make sure we have obtained all of our gear back.
At first we were quite upset, and really didn’t know what all was missing.  The robber broke a side glass window and slipped in to the building, along with the items the robber did get, he attempted to steal a generator and a trailer that was LINX ELECTRIC property, but had issues and abandoned the trailer in the middle of Joor Road and left the generator upside down in the parking lot.
It is very aggravating that in a tough economy theft goes on the rise.  The Sheriff said that theft will be picking up from now until Christmas.  There are people out there that will take any risk to get money for drug habits etc.  Officer Norton and his team did a great job in bringing this robber to justice.  LINX ELECTRIC was very impressed with the response and action taken by Officer Norton.  The issue was handled very professionally, and the officers in our parish do a great job in protecting our citizens.
I think law enforcement work sometimes goes without notice, and the entire parish, citizens, and small businesses, like ours, need to take the time to thank our law enforcement officers.  LINX ELECTRIC did not think that our equipment would be recovered, but this robbery comes with a happy ending and we want to thank officer Norton and his team.
If the sheriff’s office ever needs some electrical work done, LINX ELECTRIC is right down the street, and we will be there ASAP, at no charge!  We truly hope that we can repay them one day.
