Central Speaks For You: A Community and Newspaper Partnership

By  |

As Central's weekly newspaper, Central Speaks has had the pleasure of working with many citizens to help resolve issues or just to get the word out on a problem or an opportunity.  A great example cam this last week when Bruce Prestridge called Central Speaks to discuss a hazardous utility pole.  The pole, located at the end of Bon Dickey Drive in the cul-de-sac where school buses turn around several times each day, was rotted away at the base (see inset photo). Atop the pole is a heavy transformer and the pole seemed ready to fall with even the slightest bump from a car or school bus.  The result of that could have been tragic.
Dave Freneaux of Central Speaks met Mr. Prestridge and took the photos you see.  Mr. Prestridge had reported the situation to Entergy for a number of months but no repair had been made.  Central Speaks took up the issue with Entergy last Friday and found the Customer Relations representatives at Entergy to be both concerned and very helpful.  Mr. Prestridge called us on Tuesday to report that Entergy crews had already been out surveying the situation and marking in-ground lines in preparation for repairs.  Our compliments and thanks to Entergy for the quick response.
A community newspaper technically has no greater influence in any matter than any citizen.  However, the partnership of citizens and the community newspaper seems to be an effective one.  Citizens are in the unique position of being there first-hand to see issues that can become problems in the City, and Central Speaks is in the unique position to be able to communicate these issues and help seek solutions.  While the partnering of the media and citizens to solve issues in a community is not a new idea, it is new in Central.  So, contact us with legitimate community concerns for safety and the general improvement of the community and let us see how we can partner with you to help resolve issues.  We will call this effort "Central Speaks For You" and will publicize these issues as they are resolved to better our Central community.  Email us at [email protected] or call us at 262-3730.
