Update on New Intermediate and Middle Schools

Submitted by the Central Community School System
Construction of the New Intermediate and Middle Schools Complex on Sullivan Rd. is proceeding and nearing completion. Students, who will attend the new facilities next year, toured the academic buildings over the past week. Furniture and technology installations are currently underway. Administrators of both schools will move into the facilities starting June 11, 2012.
As part of the project, the school system is required to make roadway improvements on Sullivan and Devall roads. There will be three entrances to the complex on Sullivan Rd. and one on Devall Rd. One entrance will be at the roundabout intersection of Sullivan and Gurney roads. The other entrances will all receive both left and right turn lanes to facilitate entrance to the school site. The roadwork construction has begun and the turn lanes on Devall Rd. are expected to be completed around the end of the month. Work on Sullivan Rd. is currently projected to start around the first of June and completed by mid-August.
Construction of the roundabout will require closure of Sullivan Rd. at the intersection of Gurney Rd. for approximately one month. Therefore, the public can expect to be inconvenienced during the roadwork construction – especially on Sullivan Rd. A detour will be in effect during the roundabout construction and, at this time, is presently expected to occur during the month of July. Additional updates will be forthcoming.
