Whatever the barometer may say, this summer it’s going to be in the 80s! At least that’s the case on stage at Central Community Theatre, where the 1980s pop musical Footloose cuts loose August 12th-15th. Performances will be held at the Manship Theatre. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at www.manshiptheatre.org or by calling 225-344-0334. This Broadway show, which was a hit on national tour, is based on the 1984 film that made a star out of Kevin Bacon. In it, a hip Chicago teen relocates to a Bible-belt farming community where rock music and dancing have been outlawed.

In CCT’s production, 19-year-old Garrett Smith, stars as Ren, the young rebel who sets the town abuzz, while Chelsi Hefner,19, fires up the stage as Ariel, the minister’s beautiful but troubled teenage daughter. Josiah Ortego and Claire Clinkingbeard play the fire and brimstone Reverend Moore and his compassionate wife Vi. Dillon Chustz plays Ren’s buddy Willard, the cowboy with two left feet, and Emma Graves is his bubble-headed sweetheart Rusty. Ashley Estave plays Ren’s single and determined mother, Ethel. Faith Weatherly, Kelsey Bordelon, Landon Smith, Connor Lloyd, and Joey King are featured as Ren and Ariel’s friends. Grant Clinkingbeard is featured as Ariel’s dangerous boyfriend Chuck along with an energetic cast of 34 young singers and dancers busting loose on the CCT stage.

Footloose leaps to the stage with a fabulous production team including Karen Clinkingbeard, Kim Sullivan, Dorothy Dean, Claire Clinkingbeard, Addie Dean, and Byron Clinkingbeard. Footloose is sponsored in part by a grant from the Charles Lamar Family Foundation as administered by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.
