CMS Football Edges Out Northwest

By  |

The Central Middle Wildcat Football team squeaked past the Norhtwest Braves by a score of 16-14 on yet another rainy night, and improved their record to 6-0.  The Braves, who had already lost once against the Wildcats this season, scored both of their touchdowns off of fumbles by CMS .  The first fumble recovery for a touchdown came in the first quarter.  After driving down the soggy field, the Wildcats fumbled the ball on the Braves’ 12 yard line and the Braves picked it up and ran it 78 yard for a touchdown.  The 2-pt. conversion was good, and the Braves led 8-0.   CMS seemed to run the ball very well, but several drives stalled and they were forced to punt each time.  During the second quarter, it seemed like deja-vu, as the Braves picked up yet another fumble by the Wildcats and ran it for a 72-yard touchdown. However, this time the 2-pt. conversion was no good and that was the difference in
the ball game.  In the second half, the Wildcat offense settled down and started to move the football.  A 43-yard pass by CMS quarterback Jake Myers put the Wildcats on the Braves’ 4 yard line.  Central scored on the next play and added the 2-pt. conversion, making the score 14-8.  The CMS defense held off the Braves the rest of the quarter.  Early in the 4th quarter, the young Wildcats found themselves deep in their own territory.  The Braves tried to stop the offensive momentum, but the Wildcat offensive line, anchored by Timmy Magee and Jason Young, proved too tough for them. The Wildcats piled on the rushing yards and scored their second touchdown of the night with 3:56 left in the game.  The critical 2-pt. conversion was good and the Wildcats went ahead for the first time in the ballgame, 16-14.  The Braves were in no position to quit though, as they ran an end-around and gained 38 yards, to
place them in Wildcat territory on the 32 yard line.  As they have done all season, the CMS defense refused to budge and stopped the Braves from moving the ball any further as time ran out.   The Wildcat’s next game will be in Baker, against the Baker Buffaloes.
