Ditch Maintenance in Central

By  |

The City of Central has put out a request that residents of our city be careful to keep their ditches free of debris and other blockages. It is widely assumed that ditches on private property that are next to the road are the property and responsibility of the city. Actually, most ditch areas in yards belong to the house owner and are therefore the propertry holder’s responsibility. This becomes an issue when there is heavy rainfall, as debris and overgrown plants in ditches can cause blockage of the drainage area. In an effort to keep drainage paths clear and prevent extra flooding, a city ordinance was created in 2007 that allows a fine to be issued to anyone blocking drainage paths (ditches, drains, and gutters) on their property. Help keep the drainage system in out city working smoothly and avoid a fine by remembering to keep the ditches clear and maintained when doing yard work.
