Central, LA —  Despite a downturn in parish sales tax collections, the city of Central is seeing growth in sales tax revenues for the first six months of 2010 as compared to the first six months of 2009.

Regular sales tax collections for January through June 2010 in the city limits of Central totaled $2,125,548.30 as compared to $2,085,948.46 for the same period in 2009.  This represents a 1.8% increase.  The city’s budget was based upon a 1% increase in sales tax revenues.

Motor vehicle sales taxes for the first six months of 2010 totaled $583,785.30.  For the same period in 2009, the total was $470,536.95.  This amount reflects a 24% increase.

Combined sales taxes and motor vehicle taxes increased by a total of $152,848.19, which is a 5.9% increase in sales tax collections.
