Comite Drive Closure Beginning Next Tuesday
Traffic Advisory
Comite Drive to Close from Foster Drive to Pettit Road
for New Bridge Installation and Roadway Construction
Beginning Tuesday, June 1st at 12 a.m., workers plan to close Comite Drive from Foster Drive to Pettit Road for construction as part of a Green Light Plan project to widen the roadway.
The roadway will be closed for an estimated period of nine (9) months, weather permitting, for the installation of a new 125-foot bridge at Whites Bayou, the installation of the new public sewer system and the replacement of existing roadway. Construction crews plan to work overtime throughout the closure to expedite construction.
Motorists should prepare to use Plank Road, Foster Drive and Pettit Road as primary roadways for detours. Access to the closed portion of Comite Drive will be restricted to residents living within the closed roadway area and residential service providers, including emergency response personnel. The following residential services will remain in place as follows.
Trash Collection: Trash and Waste Removal will remain in place and on the current scheduled service day.
Mail and Package Delivery: Mail and Package Delivery will remain in place with the US Postal Service. FedEx and UPS deliveries will be permitted throughout the road closure for deliveries to residents.
School Bus Routes: Local schools will be notified of the road closure and access will be provided to school buses who service the residents within the road closure limits.
Emergency Services: Every effort will be made to ensure emergency services remain in place at all times for residents within the road closure limits.
Message signs warning of the closure will be posted on Comite Drive to alert motorists of the roadway closure and motorists are strongly encouraged to remain alert and exercise caution when traveling in the vicinity. Travel times may be affected, and motorists are encouraged to factor in potential delays when traveling in the area during the closure.
Work began last November to widen Comite Drive from Plank Road to the Comite River as part of the Green Light Plan to relieve congestion on major traffic arteries in East Baton Rouge Parish. When complete, the Comite Drive project will provide a two-lane roadway with a continuous center turn lane, sidewalks on both sides of the road, and a widened six-foot shoulder that can be used for bicycles. The project also includes sanitary sewer upgrades, the new 125-foot bridge over Whites Bayou, and new subsurface drainage to replace existing roadside ditches.
