After experiencing the Flood of 2016, citizens of Central remember all too well the horrors that Texas is now facing and are working hard to lend a helping hand to our neighbor. The Cajun Navy’s ranks have been swelled by many Central citizens, as have that of the Capital Area Law Enforcement Foundation, who are in Pasadena cooking meals for first responders. For those of us who can’t offer a physical presence, the following organizations are giving the opportunity to reach out to Texas in other meaningful ways:
The Central Distribution Center -13505 Hooper Road. Collecting donations to go to Rockport, Texas. Open every day from 10-7 through September 4. Items needed are listed on the Rolling In With Relief Amazon wishlist at http://a.co/b7eQmzP. Co-sponsored by the City of Central, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Oak Point Fresh Market and PODS. Baby supplies are especially needed. Clothing can NOT be accepted at this time. PODS have been set up at both Oak Point Fresh Markets (Central and Watson) and Nooley’s Restaurant in Prairieville. More information can be found at the “Rolling In With Relief” Facebook page.
Blackwater United Methodist Church, 10000 Blackwater Road- collecting supplies for Flood Buckets. A list of supplies is available on their Facebook page. Donations may be dropped off between 9-2 Tuesday – Thursday and Sunday 9-12 and 4-7. Monetary donations should be made out to the church and designated “Harvey”. No clothes can be accepted at this time. Call 261-4646 for more information.
