CAPA Corner: Out of the Old and Into the New

By  |

Our heavenly Father is all about new things: new life, new birth, new testament, new creature, new covenant, new man, new commandment, new name, new song, new heaven and earth, all things new.

II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

God wants to move us from the old man unto the new man. In order to leave the old behind and enter into the new we must put our faith in Jesus and repent.  Throughout history God has tried to move his people from an old sinful state unto salvation. He wants to bring us out from wickedness and bondage unto righteousness and freedom.

In Genesis chapter 19 we see Lot and his family given the opportunity to escape Sodom and Gomorrah. The angel said to them, “…look not behind thee,…”.  Looking back to the old things leads to us trying to save ourselves. Notice Lot’s wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. Salt is used to preserve things. Self-preservation leads to death.

Luke 18:32-33 Remember Lot’s wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

When God is moving us from the old into the new, don’t look back. He who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is not fit for the kingdom of God. Be obedient, repent, and God will destroy the very thing we are not supposed to look at just as he did with Sodom and Gomorrah.

In Exodus chapter 14 Moses is leading the children of Israel out of Egypt and come upon a great obstacle, the Red Sea. God told Moses, “ speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward.”.  Prior to God telling Moses this the Jews are afraid and they tell Moses that it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness. When hard times come many revert back to their old comfortable ways, but God is saying ‘Forget the old and enter into the new – Go Forward! Don’t fear the obstacles that are in the way, have faith in the word of God. Be obedient, repent, and God will remove the very obstacle that’s in your way to the promised land just as he did with the Jews in crossing the Red Sea.
