CHS Girls Bowling Caps Off First Undefeated Season With a Tremendous Final Week
By Coach Godley
CLAIM 3RD STRAIGHT DISTRICT TITLE
On Tuesday, March 8 at All Star Lanes the Wildcats (10-0) defeated East Ascension (5-4) 23-4 and 2665-2278 to claim their 3rd straight District Title! Even with three starters out for Tuesday's match, the flu bug couldn’t derail the Wildcats’ quest for a District Title. Solid games of 905, 901 and 859 helped Central cruise by the Spartans. Senior/Captain Sarah LeDuff and Freshman Jessie Smith led the team with a 554 series each, with LeDuff rolling a 214 and Smith rolling a 209. Junior Brittnee Robinson added a 501 (203). Also, solid bowling by Freshman Destini Geautreaux, Junior Savannah Lee, and Junior Dante Garcia helped the team to victory.
HOLD OFF WARRIORS
CHS Girls (11-0) bowling made a very loud statement on Wednesday, March 9 at All Star Lanes by knocking off St. Michael’s (9-2) in very competitive match.
Central and St. Michael’s would put on a show through the first two games that saw multiple lead changes and fans going back and forth with every strike and spare. Right off the bat, Game 1 would set the tone for most of the match. The Wildcats put together a great tenth frame to gain a little separation from the Warriors and take a 6-2, 977-884 lead. The 884 was a season high for the Warriors (at the time). The Wildcats rolled a very consistent game with Junior Brianna McCurley shooting a 172 and no Wildcat rolling under a 148. Game 2 would be even more exciting with St. Michael’s rolling their best game of the season. The Warriors would take Game 2 5-3 with a tremendous 1047 (to Central’s 1020), marking the first game Central has lost all season. McCurley led the team with a 219, followed by Smith’s 196, and Freshman Alanna Coward’s 180. Going into the final game, Central found themselves up 9-7 and up only 66 pins overall.
With the match still up in the air, Central hit the gas and didn’t look back with a solid third game. In what was easily the Girls’ best performance of the year, the Wildcats ran away with the match winning Game 3 8-0 and 1144-801! The 1144 is a new school record for the Wildcats! Contributing to the record-setting game was Robinson’s 218, Smith’s 207, LeDuff’s 201, McCurley’s 193, Garcia’s 168, and Coward’s 157. In the end, the Wildcats would win the match by the final score of 20-7 and 3141-2732. St. Michael’s 2732 was a season high series for the Warriors, but ultimately it wasn’t nearly enough as Central also set a new school record for series with their 3141! Overall, Central was led by McCurley’s 584, followed by Smith's 566, LeDuff's 514, Robinson's 510, Coward's 485, and Garcia rolling her best LHSAA series ever with a 482 (164, 150, 168).
CAP OFF PERFECT SEASON
Central Girls (12-0) capped off the best regular season by a CHS Girls’ team by beating University Lab (2-6) on Monday, March 14 at All Star Lanes. The undefeated Wildcats cruised to a 24-3 and 3000-1535 victory. LeDuff led the Wildcats and finished her Senior regular season by shooting a LHSAA personal high game and series with a 267 and 625! McCurley followed with a 565 (219) and Robinson rolled a 507 (183). Coward rolled a 198 and Smith added a 182.
The 3000 series is the 5th time this season that the Wildcats have cracked 3000 and before this season, the Wildcats had only done that once in school history. In comparison, 17 Baton Rouge area Boys teams haven't cracked 3000 once! Also in that series, they finished the season with a tremendous game of 1128, 3rd highest in school history! After wrapping their first undefeated regular season and third straight District Title (32-2 over the last 3 years), the Wildcats will go into the State Playoffs as the #1 Seed and geared up for a run at their first LHSAA Team State Championship.
