Press Release from AT&T
Youth in Central will soon be up to bat and AT&T will be providing much of the equipment. That's the word from Central Area Youth League officials who have accepted the company's $5,000 contribution to purchase new bats and balls and to support ongoing league operations impacting more than 1100 boys and girls.
“The Central Area Youth League not only helps participants learn the sport, but also the important lessons that we use in life every day―sportsmanship, teamwork, and the great feeling that comes with hard work,” stated Senator Bodi White. “We’re fortunate to have this organization where kids from not only Central, but also Denham Springs, Zachary, Baton Rouge, and other areas can also participate.”
“We appreciate the support of Senator Bodi White, our corporate allies, and BREC for the use of the parks,” stated Doug Devall, Treasurer, Central Area Youth League. “Baseball is the great American pastime. This support allows our organization to continue to grow and give more kids an opportunity to learn to play this great game and also learn what it means to become a part of a team.”
The group organizes baseball, T-ball and softball activities for boys and girls ages 5 to 15 years of age.   Volunteer coaches conduct these activities and games are played in parks owned by the East Baton Rouge Recreation and Park System. The activities are funded by registration fees, team sponsors, tournament entry fees and donations. During the 2015 season, over 100 teams with over 1,190 players participated in league play.
It is intended to make better citizens through proper supervision and regulation of competitive baseball/softball in addition to promoting mental and physical development. Participants learn the proper fundamentals and basic strategies for baseball and softball and to promote sportsmanship, fellowship and safety, regardless of skill level, thereby providing wholesome activities for the youth of the Central area.
“AT&T is committed to building, strengthening and enhancing the lives of those who live and work in the communities we serve,” said Berry Balfour, AT&T Louisiana Regional Director of External Affairs.
