In Memoriam: Leonard “Neal” Conley Jr.
Mr. Leonard “Neal” Conley Jr., 83, of Central, LA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 11:38 a.m. Neal passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was a Deacon and long-time member of Zoar Baptist Church who lived and shared his Christian faith daily. Born November 1, 1931, he was the only child of Leonard Neal Conley Sr. and Mary Collingsworth Conley. While attending LSU he was a member of the Pershing Rifle Corps, the ROTC, and received degrees in both Chemistry and Chemical Engineering with honors. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and retired from Ethyl Corp in Baton Rouge after 30 years of service as a Senior Process Design Engineer.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law Tommy Roshto. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bettie Gibson Conley; three children: Becky Roshto of Birmingham, AL, Len Conley and his wife Kathy of Baton Rouge, Brent Conley and his wife JoLynn of Vestavia Hills, AL; seven grandchildren: Thomas Roshto, Rebecca McCormick and husband David, Brad Conley and wife Misty, Greg Conley and wife Renee, Ben Conley, Jennifer Conley, Jessica Conley; six great-grandchildren: Conley and Stella McCormick, Leyton and Larkin Conley, Jillian and Matthew Conley.
Visitation was held Monday, July 6, 2015 from 10 a.m. to noon at Zoar Baptist Church, 11848 Hooper Road, Baton Rouge, LA. Funeral services started at noon and interment immediately followed at Zoar Baptist Cemetery. Services were officiated by Dr. Kevin Hand, Rev. Dennis McAnally and Rev. Glen Miers. Pallbearers were Thomas Roshto, Brad Conley, Greg Conley, Ben Conley, David McCormick, and Keith Menck. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmie Spangler, Nolan Langston, Jim Peevey, and Kenneth Lee.
